New role for mental health and addictions among changes in provincial cabinet shuffle

A new position dedicated to mental health and addictions was among several recent changes made in an Ontario government cabinet shuffle.

Vaughan-Woodbridge MPP Michael Tibollo was appointed to the new role of Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions in the government realignment, which included a few changes to the health portfolio. Tibollo has unique and personal ties that suit a mental health and addictions focus, which include his role as chairman of the Caritas School of Life Therapeutic Community and his current efforts to complete his doctorate in clinical psychology.

In addition to the specific mental health and addictions position assumed by Tibollo, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care was separated into two – the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Long-Term Care. Deputy Premier and Newmarket-Aurora MPP Christine Elliott, former Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, maintained the role of Minister of Health, while Kanata-Carleton MPP Merrilee Fullerton shifted to Minister of Long-Term Care from the Training, Colleges and Universities portfolio.
