Ethics

CMHA Halton is a member of the Community Ethics Network and has adopted the Code of Ethics for the Community Health and Support Sector to which all representatives of CMHA Halton must adhere. This Code of Ethics is intended to provide us with specific ethical principles to address situations that we may encounter and support high-quality, safe client care.

We have an Ethical Decision-Making Framework to help us respond to ethical dilemmas in ways that promote client dignity and person-centred care. It is called the IDEA Framework and encompasses:

Identify the Facts: Gather information about the facts of the situation and identify the ethical issue(s).

Determine the Ethical Principles: Clarify the ethical principles that are at stake.

Explore options: Identify courses of action and the benefits and challenges of each.

Act and Evaluate: Choose a course of action, evaluate the outcome. and amend the decision as appropriate.
